Padma Shri Dr. Yashodhar Mathpal is a distinguished Indian archaeologist, museum curator, fine artist, philosopher, Gandhian, and cultural conservationist, whose life’s work bridges prehistoric heritage with modern Indian folk traditions. Born in 1940 in a remote village in the Himalayan region of Kumaon (Uttarakhand), Dr. Mathpal’s remarkable journey has resulted in the founding of a unique museum dedicated to folk culture, rock art, and traditional heritage.
